Goa, renowned for its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife, harbors a lesser-known surge in criminal activity. Recent data highlights a striking trend: offenses committed by foreigners far outnumber those against them.
Key Statistics from 2022-2024
National Crime Records Bureau figures reveal that police registered 251 cases involving foreign nationals in Goa over the three-year period. Of these, 206 involved foreigners as perpetrators, while the remaining cases saw them as victims. This makes crimes by foreigners more than six times higher than incidents targeting them.
Range of Offenses
Foreign nationals faced arrests for serious crimes including rape, narcotics possession and trafficking, cheating, assault, attempt to murder, rioting, and offenses under the Foreigners Act. Additional charges encompassed immoral trafficking, theft, and assaults on public servants.
Involved Nationalities
Cases implicated individuals from countries such as Nigeria, Russia, Nepal, Tanzania, Bulgaria, Portugal, Uganda, Bangladesh, Liberia, Kenya, and Ivory Coast.
