The Himachal Pradesh BJP suspends primary membership of ten leaders who filed nominations against the party’s official candidates in urban local body elections across Dharamshala, Solan, and Nahan in Sirmaur district. Officials announce six suspensions on Saturday and four more on Sunday.
Elections for Municipal Corporations in Dharamshala, Solan, Mandi, and Palampur, plus 25 Municipal Councils and 22 Nagar Panchayats, take place on May 17. The rebels submit papers as Independents despite authorized BJP nominees already in place.
Suspended Leaders in Key Areas
In Dharamshala Municipal Corporation, action targets former Mayor Omkar Nehria from Ward No. 2, former Deputy Mayor Tejendra Kaur from Ward No. 6, Dharamshala Urban Mandal Secretary Saroj Guleria from Ward No. 8, Booth President Mitul Shukla from Ward No. 14, and Mahila Morcha Mandal Secretary Himanshi Agrawal from Ward No. 1.
Solan sees suspensions for Gaurav Rajput, Mandal Co-Incharge of the IT Department, and Rajni Rajput, State Executive Member of the BJP Mahila Morcha, both from Ward No. 3. Rampal and Mukesh Verma from Ward No. 7 face similar measures.
The party also suspends Leela Saini from Ward No. 3 in Nahan Municipal Council.
Disciplinary Action and Party Response
State BJP president Rajeev Bindal issues the suspension orders with immediate effect, citing gross indiscipline. A BJP spokesperson states, “The party’s disciplinary committee examined complaints from district and mandal units and concluded that contesting against official party nominees amounts to a serious breach of party discipline. Acting on the recommendations, BJP state president Rajeev Bindal orders the immediate suspension of primary membership for the concerned leaders per the party constitution.”
Leaders emphasize the BJP’s cadre-based structure demands strict adherence to organizational decorum. They urge workers to prioritize party interests and unite behind BJP-supported candidates in the upcoming Panchayati Raj and urban local body polls.
