President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran’s latest response to a U.S. ceasefire proposal, labeling it “totally unacceptable” in a Truth Social post.
Trump’s Sharp Rebuke
Trump stated, “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!” He provided no specific details on the rejection but earlier accused Tehran of “playing games” with the United States for decades.
Context of the Proposal
Iran delivered its counterproposal through Pakistani mediators on Sunday, according to state media. The response emphasizes ending the conflict across all fronts, including Lebanon where Israel battles Iran-backed Hezbollah, and securing maritime routes.
The U.S. had submitted a one-page, 14-point peace memo a week prior, aiming to resolve the standoff that has disrupted shipping in the Persian Gulf and driven up global energy prices.
Stalled Negotiations
Talks have dragged on for weeks amid fragile ceasefires and sporadic drone strikes. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi noted that diplomatic solutions often give way to U.S. military actions.
Despite the setback, U.S. officials indicate proximity to a deal, though major hurdles remain on issues like the Strait of Hormuz reopening and nuclear restrictions.
