Cody Simpson Faces Vocal Cord Crisis
Australian singer Cody Simpson, 29, discloses a severe vocal cord hemorrhage that prompts him to pause his music career temporarily. He shares a photo on social media showing himself connected to an EKG monitor, detailing the challenges he has faced privately.
‘Hey guys. I originally thought I could keep this private but it’s time I share what I’ve been going through. Just over a month ago we discovered a serious haemorrhage on one of my vocal cords,’ Simpson writes.
Cause and Immediate Impact
The injury stems from intense studio sessions during an undiagnosed sinus infection. Simpson pushed through what he mistook for fatigue, leading to a sudden loss of voice.
‘It occurred due to my overzealousness in the studio singing, through a sinus infection I didn’t know I had. Assumed it was just fatigue and kept showing up to the studio until one day I could no longer sing,’ he explains.
Career Disruptions and Recovery Plan
Vocal rest has lasted weeks, forcing cancellations of TV and radio appearances. Album production and single releases face delays. Doctors prescribe two more weeks of silence to prevent surgery and its extended recovery.
Simpson adapts by writing lyrics silently with collaborators and composing melodies on guitar. ‘I’m back in the studio now writing strictly as a lyricist on mute with my collaborators, and hearing/writing my vocal melodies on my guitar (which I will eventually replace with my voice when I’m able to). Where there’s a will, there’s a way.’
He views the ordeal positively: ‘I’d like to bring you on the journey. I’ve been extremely up and down but am now reframing this as a realignment for the long-term good.’
Shift to Fitness and Recent Spotlight
Amid recovery, Simpson transitions from swimming to gym workouts, unveiling a more muscular build. Last month in Los Angeles, he struts across the Hollywood Walk of Fame, promoting his song ‘When It Comes to Loving You.’
The music video features him shirtless, covered in fake blood during a gritty fight scene, evoking Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden from Fight Club. He poses before a billboard displaying his image with the slogan: ‘The first rule of Cody Simpson is you do not talk about Cody Simpson.’
Simpson posts behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram, captioning them ‘one of the happier chaps.’
Personal Life Updates
Following his split from swimmer Emma McKeon earlier this year, Simpson embraces single life. Romance rumors swirl after cozy sightings with influencer Adelia Clark, but he clarifies on Instagram and TikTok that he prioritizes ‘me time.’
