Nintendo has shifted the worldwide theatrical release of the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie forward to April 30, 2027, one week earlier than the previously scheduled May 7, 2027. The adjustment allows the production team to deliver the film sooner.
Shigeru Miyamoto Shares Update
Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of the iconic The Legend of Zelda franchise, announced the change via Nintendo’s official X account. “We have decided to move the worldwide release date of the live-action The Legend of Zelda film from May 7, 2027, to April 30, 2027,” Miyamoto stated. “The team is united in pushing production forward to bring it to audiences even one day earlier. With less than a year until premiere, please hold on just a bit longer.”
Production Details and Cast
This marks Nintendo’s venture into live-action adaptations, distinct from the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. Directed by Wes Ball, acclaimed for the Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the film boasts a screenplay co-written by Derek Connolly (Pokémon: Detective Pikachu) and T.S. Nowlin (Maze Runner trilogy).
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth stars as Link, with Bo Bragasorn portraying Zelda. Announced in November 2023, filming takes place in New Zealand, and production remains active.
