Southern highlights the significance of the occasion, noting it marks the company’s 99th Annual Meeting of Shareowners, with a history extending even further back.
She expresses gratitude for the attendance of familiar faces, long-standing shareholders, and company representatives. “Your trust, enduring trust in our company and our management teams, all the people of Canadian Utilities, our Boards of Directors, is very meaningful and purposeful, and I want to thank you all for that,” Southern adds.
Southern addresses safety protocols first, instructing attendees to evacuate via exit doors to muster points at Frank Oliver Park or the Westin hotel in case of an alarm or PA announcement. She emphasizes the importance of the location, acknowledging that the gathering occurs on the traditional lands of the people.
