Trump Declares US Dominance in Strait of Hormuz

President Trump stated that the United States controls the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that American forces have essentially wiped out Iran’s armed forces. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One following his summit with China’s President Xi Jinping, Trump highlighted the effectiveness of a U.S. blockade, noting, “We control the Strait [of Hormuz], and they’ve done no business… so we have been doing very well on all fronts.”

He added that minor cleanup operations may be necessary after a month-long ceasefire but stressed the blockade’s success. Trump also expressed openness to a 20-year suspension of Iran’s nuclear program, provided Tehran offers a genuine commitment.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Rejects Trust in US Negotiations

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that his country “cannot trust the Americans at all,” describing this lack of trust as the primary barrier to diplomacy. During a press conference in New Delhi at the BRICS summit, Araghchi affirmed that Iran is working to uphold the “shaky” ceasefire to allow diplomatic solutions.

He insisted the Strait of Hormuz remains open for all vessels except those from nations at war with Iran, stating, “Everything must be precise and clearly defined before any agreement can be concluded.” Araghchi pointed to inconsistent U.S. messaging as a factor deepening mistrust.

Iran Claims Victory and Demands New Global Recognition

Araghchi proclaimed Iran the victor in the conflict, asserting that the nation prevented enemies from achieving their goals and imposed its will. In a video message, he said, “All countries now acknowledge that the Islamic Republic of Iran was the victor in this war.”

From now on, he urged, Iran should be regarded “as a power capable of confronting the world’s greatest powers.” Araghchi criticized the UAE for supporting U.S. and Israeli forces and called for regional cooperation over reliance on external powers.

Iranian Army Vows Defense to the Last

The Iranian army’s commander-in-chief, Major General Amir Hatami, pledged that troops will defend the nation “until the last drop of blood” and the achievement of complete victory. He emphasized commitment to protecting territorial integrity and independence, adding that fighters view martyrdom as a blessing while fighting for triumph.

Israel Orders Evacuations in Southern Lebanon

Israel’s military urged residents of five villages near Tyre in southern Lebanon to evacuate immediately due to anticipated operations against Hezbollah, which violated the ceasefire agreement. Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee posted on X, warning people to stay at least 1,000 meters away for safety.

Trump and Xi Align on Iran, Strait Reopening

Trump revealed that he and President Xi Jinping share similar views on Iran, both seeking an end to the war, reopening of the Strait of Hormuz—through which 20% of global oil flows—and prevention of Iran’s nuclear armament. Trump noted Xi’s assurance against providing military equipment to Iran, calling it a significant statement.

China, Iran’s largest oil buyer, depends heavily on the strait. Trump quoted Xi as offering assistance: “If I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help.” Trump indicated limited patience for a peace deal, urging Iran to negotiate swiftly.

CENTCOM Reports Degraded Iranian Capabilities

U.S. Central Command’s Admiral Brad Cooper informed senators that Operation Epic Fury destroyed over 90% of Iran’s 8,000 naval mines, significantly weakening Tehran’s ability to disrupt commerce in the strait. Despite this, he acknowledged lingering threats that continue to impact shipping and insurance sectors.
