James Gunn is detailing how Henry Cavill was knowledgeable he would now not play Superman within the DCU. Gunn, who wrote and directed the most recent “Superman” movie, was appointed co-head of DC Studios after the WBD merger. Cavill was teased to reprising the position throughout a “Black Adam” cameo in 2022 whereas Gunn, although, was already within the works on a script that centered on a youthful model of the titular character. “Superman” was a casualty throughout the altering of the guards at DC, and that left Cavill within the mud after starring because the hero in three earlier options. David Corenswet was later forged within the lead position, as introduced in 2023, with “Superman” being Gunn’s first function on his rebooted DCU slate.

We got here in, and that was actually unlucky. I’m like, ‘This poor man.’”
Gunn and his co-chair Peter Safran “sat down” with Cavill to debate the change. “He was an absolute gentleman and an important man about it,” Gunn mentioned of Cavill’s response. “He mentioned, ‘The one factor I ask is that I’m capable of reveal it myself versus coming from you guys.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s a category act.’”
And don’t rely Cavill out of the DCU underneath Gunn simply but: The director “would love” for Cavill to be forged in a special position within the franchise. “I talked to him about it on that day,” he mentioned. “I might like to put Henry in one thing.”
