A former DEI staffer on the College of Wisconsin–Eau Claire will obtain a $265,000 settlement after she sued the varsity, alleging discrimination for being white.

Rochelle Hoffman, a former worker at UW-Eau Claire, introduced the case in 2023 after she was promoted to interim director of the campus’s Multicultural Pupil Companies workplace.

The varsity’s former vice chancellor for Fairness, Variety and Inclusion and Pupil Affairs, Olga Diaz, was allegedly instructed by college students {that a} white girl was not match to preside over a place meant to serve college students of coloration. 

“You employed a white girl because the interim director?” one scholar allegedly mentioned, in response to a federal grievance towards the college.

In line with the grievance, a unique scholar requested, “Do you personally really feel white workers can do as efficient a job as an individual of coloration, inside an area for individuals of coloration?”

Hoffman mentioned she felt she needed to resign after eight months of intense hostility and workers questioning her “legitimacy” after being promoted to interim director of the campus’s Multicultural Pupil Companies workplace, the grievance states.


Ex-College of Wisconsin–Eau Claire DEI staffer, Rochelle Hoffman, has obtained a $265,000 settlement after suing the varsity for alleged discrimination for being white.

In December 2023, Hoffman sued the College of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The settlement notes that “any fee made hereunder is to not be construed as an admission of legal responsibility on the a part of the Launched Events, and that the Launched Events herein deny legal responsibility or any wrongdoing and intend merely to keep away from litigation and purchase their peace.” 

In an announcement to Fox Information Digital, Hoffman mentioned, “For over a decade, I’ve labored as a instructor in each Ok-12 and better schooling, primarily serving first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented college students. Whereas at UW–Eau Claire, I used to be honored to be appointed by Vice Chancellor Diaz as a DEI Program Director to increase data-informed educational interventions that improved retention and commencement charges amongst college students of coloration.”
