Within the video, college principal James Marsh of Summersville, W.Va., could be seen unlocking the college’s dumpster. As he does, he’s stunned by a bear’s snout poking out from beneath the lid. He visibly startles, then runs away towards the digital camera; the bear climbs out of the dumpster and runs away in the wrong way.
Why is that this video vital?
Whereas few college principals will encounter a bear jack-in-the-box as a part of their duties, this can be a reminder that hungry wildlife hunt down unsecured trash when they’re searching for their subsequent meal.
As The Wild Savior explains, “Black bears (Ursus americanus) are frequent in West Virginia and are glorious climbers and foragers. They’re drawn to meals sources like unsecured trash, which may result in harmful human encounters. … This serves as a reminder that human meals and waste can unintentionally lure wild animals into city areas, highlighting the significance of wildlife administration and public security.”
