Southwest Airways is rolling out new expertise in its Boeing 737 fleet. The purpose? To make takeoffs and landings safer.
Southwest Airways will quickly roll out a sweeping overhaul of its boarding course of.
The Texas-based airline, which has used open seating for greater than 50 years, will shift to assigned seating beginning Jan. 27 and introduce a totally new boarding system, in response to its web site.
The revamp, identified internally as “Mission USA,” has been in testing for months in Houston and Cancun, Mexico.
Underneath the brand new “WILMA” boarding methodology, passengers with window seats will board first, adopted by these in center seats after which aisle seats, starting from the again of the plane, The Wall Road Journal reported.

Southwest can be scrapping its present numbered stanchions at gates with 9 boarding teams. Gates will function simply two strains, one for the group boarding and one for the group boarding subsequent, in response to The Wall Road Journal.

“Our premium fares and our most loyal prospects may have entry to raised seat varieties and can board earlier within the course of,” Southwest’s web site says.

Earlier this week, Southwest unveiled its first Boeing 737 Max 8 with a refreshed inside full with an additional legroom part, new high-end seats and refreshed lighting, underscoring the corporate’s broader push to modernize its fleet and supply new perks to prospects.
