A airplane carrying 4 members of Congress to Washington, DC, to vote on ending the federal government shutdown was diverted attributable to a “disruptive passenger” who later declared to fellow fliers, “We reside in a fascist state.”

Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ) posted on X on Tuesday that the American Airways flight carrying him, together with Republican Reps. Eli Crane, Andy Biggs, and Paul Gosar have been compelled to make an “emergency cease in Kansas Metropolis” after an unruly passenger induced a disturbance following takeoff from Phoenix Sky Harbor Worldwide Airport.

Roughly an hour after the diversion, the airplane took off from Kansas Metropolis and touched down at Reagan Nationwide Airport at 9:01 p.m.

Stanton later thanked the Kansas Metropolis Police Division “for dealing with the state of affairs professionally and with out incident.”

Whereas it’s unknown what disturbance the unhinged passenger induced that compelled the flight to make an emergency touchdown, American Airways confirmed it was as a result of actions of “a disruptive buyer.”

“On Nov. 11, American Airways flight 1218, with service from Phoenix (PHX) to Washington, DC (DCA), diverted to Kansas Metropolis (MCI) attributable to a disruptive buyer,” the airline informed KSHB 41.

“Legislation enforcement met the flight and eliminated the shopper, and the flight later re-departed for DCA, the place it landed usually. We thank our prospects for his or her endurance and our crew members for his or her professionalism.”

Stanton mentioned he was returning to Washington to vote towards the Republican persevering with decision when the airplane made the unscheduled touchdown.

In the meantime, the three Arizona Republicans on the flight — Crane, Biggs, and Gosar — have been advocating for ending the shutdown by approving the laws.

On Wednesday, President Trump signed the invoice that ended the 43-day authorities shutdown — the longest in US historical past — after the Home handed the laws earlier within the day.

The Home voted 222–209 to cross the Senate’s funding invoice, which can restart paychecks for federal staff and air visitors controllers and replenish funding for meals help applications.
