A 17-year-old student’s family firmly denies any wrongdoing amid a federal hazardous materials investigation at their Irvine residence, with their attorney emphasizing that the teen presents no danger to the public.

Family Statement Rejects Allegations

Charles M. Ray, the family’s attorney, issued a statement on Saturday, February 28, declaring, “On behalf of the family and their 17-year-old son, we categorically deny the allegations that have been suggested and reject any implication that he poses a threat in any way, shape, or form.”

Ray further noted, “There is no credible evidence to support the narrative that has begun to circulate.” He described the incident as mischaracterized and escalated beyond its true nature.

The teenager is portrayed as an advanced student in his fourth year at a prominent local college, pursuing a career in medicine. He demonstrates strong dedication to biology and chemistry, dedicating time to studies and creating educational videos for a science-oriented YouTube channel.

Investigation Details Emerge

The probe started on Monday, February 23, when the landlord alerted Irvine police to suspicious items at the home located on Cartwheel near Iluna in the gated Altair community by the Great Park. Federal hazardous materials teams from the FBI, along with local agencies, responded for five days.

Irvine authorities reported that a juvenile at the residence had mixed unknown chemicals, sparking the response. Sources close to the matter indicate the student attends the University of California, Irvine, and chemical formulas on a whiteboard raised alarms, leading FBI experts from Quantico, Virginia, to assist.

Law enforcement has maintained there is no known threat to public safety, with no evacuations ordered. Irvine police spokesman Kyle Oldoerp confirmed the investigation will extend through the weekend.

Family’s Position and Next Steps

While expressing respect for law enforcement’s duties, the family is reviewing the circumstances. Ray stated they are ready to address any potential charges through legal channels and are confident the truth will emerge.

“The family will have no further comment at this time and looks forward to returning to their normal lives as soon as possible,” the statement concluded. No arrests or charges have been announced as of Saturday.
