Two Pomeranian dogs in Thailand required urgent surgery after devouring valuable gold rice cakes, leading to substantial losses for their owner.
The Costly Mishap
A 41-year-old Thai man named Nattapon left gold rice cakes exceeding 210,000 baht (about 9.5 million won) on a chair while he dozed off. His two sister dogs seized the moment, chewing and swallowing chunks of the high-end items.
Vet Clinic Chaos
The following morning, Nattapon brought the dogs to a clinic due to vomiting. Staff discovered gold rice cake pieces in the vomit, with remnants still lodged in the dogs’ mouths. Feces later revealed fragments of the precious collectibles.
X-rays exposed gold masses in their stomachs. Officials deemed the situation too risky for anesthesia, opting for direct surgery. The procedure succeeded, and both dogs made full recoveries.
Financial Aftermath
Recovery efforts salvaged some gold, but approximately 140,000 baht (around 6.3 million won) in value vanished. Nattapon sold the retrieved pieces from the dogs’ waste and throats at a gold shop.
Owner’s Urgent Warning
Through TikTok, Nattapon advised pet owners: “Even dog food replicas in corners pose risks—store dangerous items securely.” He added, “In cases involving children or others, address changes immediately.”
