Bad Bunny, the 31-year-old Puerto Rican superstar whose real name is Benito Ocasio, dives into acting with a starring role in the historical drama Porto Rico. This move follows his electrifying Super Bowl LX halftime show earlier this month.
Star-Studded Cast and Production Team
Rapper Residente, born René Pérez Joglar, directs the film in his debut behind the camera. Bad Bunny shares the screen with acclaimed actors Javier Bardem, Edward Norton, and Viggo Mortensen. Five-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu serves as executive producer. Set in Puerto Rico, the movie explores the island’s complex history.
Residente shared his passion: “I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy. This film is a reaffirmation of who we are – told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”
Edward Norton added: “This film sits in a tradition of films we deeply love, from The Godfather to Gangs of New York, that both thrill us with visceral drama and iconic characters and eras while also forcing us to face up to the shadow story under the American narrative of idealism.” He praised Residente: “Everybody knows what a poet of language and rhythm René is. Now they’re going to see what a visual visionary he is as well. And bringing him and Bad Bunny together to tell the true story of Puerto Rico’s roots is going to be like a flame finding the stick of dynamite that’s been waiting for it.”
Bad Bunny’s Growing Acting Portfolio
This role builds on Bad Bunny’s acting experience. He debuted in 2021 with F9 and Narcos: Mexico. In 2022, he appeared in Bullet Train, followed by Cassandro opposite Gael García Bernal in 2023. Last year, he starred in Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. He also hosted Saturday Night Live for the season 51 premiere in October.
WWE Buzz with Logan Paul
Amid the film news, Logan Paul eyes a WWE clash with Bad Bunny, calling it “the biggest wrestling match of all time.” Bad Bunny previously faced Damian Priest in WWE in 2021 and impressed with his skills.
Paul revealed on his Impaulsive podcast: “Bad Bunny is a world-renowned superstar. He also can be a WWE superstar when he wants. He’s a good wrestler – he can f***ing wrestle! There have been talks about maybe us wrestling… I think it would be the greatest WWE match of all time.” He explained his pre-Super Bowl comments dismissing the halftime show as a ploy to spark interest: “By saying ‘no,’ one word, now people are talking about it.” Paul faced boos at Levi’s Stadium during the game.
