The Indian Navy strengthens its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities with the upcoming commissioning of Anjadip, the third vessel in the eight-ship ASW Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) project.
Commissioning Ceremony Details
Anjadip joins the Eastern Naval Command at Chennai Port on February 27, 2026. Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, presides over the event. This milestone underscores India’s push toward self-reliance in defense through indigenous warship design and construction by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata.
Advanced Design for Littoral Operations
Dubbed the ‘Dolphin Hunter,’ Anjadip targets enemy submarines in coastal and shallow waters critical to national security. The state-of-the-art ship features indigenous ASW weapons and sensors, including the Hull Mounted Sonar Abhay, Lightweight Torpedoes, and ASW Rockets.
Versatile Roles and Specifications
Beyond ASW, the agile vessel supports coastal surveillance, Low-Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO), and Search & Rescue missions. Measuring 77 meters in length, it employs a high-speed Water-Jet Propulsion system for a top speed of 25 knots, ensuring rapid response in sustained operations.
Named after the strategic island off Karwar, Anjadip enhances the Navy’s defense of India’s extensive maritime zones, particularly along Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts, advancing the force into a true ‘Builder’s Navy.’
