Three months after James Van Der Beek’s death from cancer, his wife Kimberly, a 44-year-old film producer, posted a deeply emotional update on Instagram alongside family photos.
Navigating Profound Loss
“To say I’m heartbroken is a severe understatement,” Kimberly wrote. “Words just don’t capture what grief is. The comforts of shock have worn off. The reality is settling in … and I miss him. We all miss him.”
She described a shift in her perception, noting, “there is a different kind of magic in the air.” Kimberly added, “I feel him. I know him more deeply. My conscious connection to God has deepened.”
“The veils of the universe have thinned. And I trust that this is the path me and my family have always been intended to walk,” she continued.
Gratitude Amid Sorrow
Kimberly expressed thanks for the overwhelming support received, stating it exceeded her expectations. “I am deeply grateful. There is so much more to share here. And in time — I will,” she concluded.
Reflecting on his final moments, she shared, “He met his final days with courage, faith and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.”
Family Legacy
The couple married in 2010 and raised six children: Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, Gwendolyn, Joshua, and Jeremiah.
James Van Der Beek’s Health Battle
Van Der Beek received a cancer diagnosis in 2023 and publicly disclosed it the following year in a statement. “I’ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he wrote.
Despite treatment, the Varsity Blues star made public appearances. He later revealed the illness imposed a significant financial burden on his family.
In March 2025, Van Der Beek announced he had confronted mortality directly, stating he “could no longer be the husband that was helpful to [his] wife.”
