Linebacker Logan Wilson announces his retirement from the NFL at age 29, one month after the Dallas Cowboys waived him. The Wyoming native spent half a season in Dallas following a November trade from the Cincinnati Bengals for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick.

Career Beginnings with Bengals

Wilson entered the league when the Bengals selected him in the third round, 65th overall, in the 2020 NFL Draft. Over five and a half seasons in Cincinnati, he started 65 games, recording 541 tackles and 11 interceptions. He played a key role in the team’s Super Bowl LVI appearance, where they fell to the Los Angeles Rams.

Named a team captain in 2025, Wilson later lost his starting spot to rookie Barrett Carter, paving the way for the trade. Highlights include his 2021 playoff interception against Tennessee, securing an AFC Championship berth after defeating Kansas City.

Brief Stint with Cowboys

In seven games with Dallas, Wilson made one start, tallying 28 tackles and a forced fumble. Despite defensive challenges, head coach Brian Schottenheimer favored Kenneth Murray Jr. as the starter. The Cowboys released him on February 20.

Emotional Farewell Message

Wilson shared his decision in an emotional Instagram post: “After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to officially retire from the NFL.”

Reflecting on his journey, he stated: “From being a Wyoming kid with big dreams to hearing my name called in the 3rd round of the 2020 Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals… football gave me more than I ever could have imagined.”

“Cincinnati will always mean a lot to me,” Wilson added. “The teammates, coaches, staff, and fans made those years unforgettable. That 2021 playoff run was something special… Those moments and that locker room are something I’ll carry with me forever.”

He also noted the personal milestone: “And the best part of all, my daughter was born there.” Wilson and his wife, Morgan, welcomed daughter Kambry James in March 2024. The couple married in Colorado in 2022 after getting engaged in 2021.

Expressing gratitude for Dallas, Wilson said: “I’m also thankful for the opportunity to finish this season in Dallas and for the way that locker room welcomed me in.”

Looking ahead, he concluded: “When I look back on my career, I just feel grateful. Not many Wyoming kids get the chance to live out their dream in the NFL… Now I’m excited for what’s ahead – more time with family, new fitness challenges, and the next chapter of life.”

Wilson thanked “every teammate, coach, trainer, staff member, and fan who was part of the journey,” adding a special note to Cincinnati fans: “I’ll always appreciate the way you embraced me.”
