Lotte Giants Bolster Pitching Roster with International Acquisition
The Lotte Giants have officially announced the signing of veteran pitcher Takaatsu, bringing onboard the right-hander with a remarkable career ERA of 0.86. The three-day special signing period concluded with team officials emphasizing strategic improvements to their pitching rotation.
Pitcher Brings Multinational Experience
Takaatsu began his professional career in 1990 when he was drafted in the third round by Japan’s Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). The pitcher subsequently demonstrated his capabilities across multiple leagues, including Major League Baseball (MLB), Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), and Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), before returning to Japan where he cemented his legacy as a premier pitcher.
Known in the KBO league as ‘Dakatsu’ during his 2008 season, the pitcher maintained an impressive record of 18 games pitched with 21 innings, 1 win, no losses, 8 saves, and a 0.86 ERA.
Coaching Background and Team Strategy
Beyond his playing career, Takaatsu served as pitching coach and bullpen coach for the Yakult Swallows organization. Since 2020, he has held the position of first-team bullpen coach, contributing to the team’s recent Japan Series championship victories.
Lotte Giants officials explained their decision: “This signing aligns with our commitment to strengthening the team’s pitching quality and strategic direction. Takaatsu’s extensive experience across multiple leagues and his proven coaching background will be invaluable assets.”
The team’s general manager further elaborated: “Our focus remains on developing pitchers through systematic growth methods. Takaatsu’s multinational experience – including his time in the U.S., Japan, Korea, and Taiwan – provides us with diverse insights for optimizing our pitching rotation and bullpen efficiency.”
Organizational Expectations
Team leadership expressed confidence that Takaatsu’s arrival will enhance their international scouting network and provide crucial feedback for developing domestic pitching talent. “We anticipate his expertise will contribute significantly to our player development system while immediately strengthening our bullpen capabilities,” the GM added.
The signing represents Lotte’s continued investment in experienced international players who can contribute both on the field and in mentoring emerging talent within the organization.
