Israeli PM Condemns Gaza Committee’s Logo Change

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel will not permit any Palestinian Authority involvement in Gaza’s administration. The statement came after a Palestinian committee overseeing civilian affairs in the territory adopted an emblem resembling the PA’s official symbol.

Logo Controversy Sparks Diplomatic Tension

The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), established last month to manage daily operations in Hamas’ absence, initially presented Israel with a distinct logo featuring a bird in Palestinian flag colors. However, officials confirmed the committee recently updated its social media profiles with a new insignia nearly identical to the PA’s golden eagle emblem.

The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that “Israel will not accept the use of a Palestinian Authority symbol” and reiterated that “the Palestinian Authority will have no part in the administration of Gaza.” The only difference between the updated NCAG logo and the PA’s symbol is the replacement of the word “Palestine” with the committee’s acronym on the shield beneath the eagle.

Ongoing Dispute Over Gaza’s Future

This development highlights continuing tensions regarding Gaza’s postwar governance. While the Palestinian Authority currently administers parts of the West Bank, Netanyahu has consistently opposed extending their authority to Gaza. The position appears unchanged despite recent reports indicating PA representatives might participate in operational mechanisms at Gaza’s Rafah border crossing with Egypt.

Analysts suggest the logo alteration signifies political positioning by Palestinian factions ahead of potential governance negotiations. The NCAG, described as a technocratic body, had initially positioned itself as an independent administrative entity before adopting the PA-associated imagery.
