Indian startup General Autonomy has introduced PARAM, described as India’s most powerful indigenous robotic dog, amid backlash over misrepresented technology at the India AI Impact Summit.

Galgotias University Controversy

A viral video from the India AI Impact Summit captured Galgotias University representatives showcasing a Chinese-made Unitree Go2 robodog, rebranded as “Orion,” as an in-house development. Professor Neha Singh presented it as a university project, sparking widespread online criticism for allegedly passing off an imported product as homegrown.

Organizers directed the Greater Noida-based institution to vacate its stall. In response, Galgotias University issued a statement apologizing for the confusion. It explained that an unauthorized representative, unaware of the robot’s origins, provided incorrect information during an on-camera interview due to enthusiasm.

The university confirmed it had vacated the premises in line with organizers’ directives.

General Autonomy Showcases PARAM

General Autonomy countered the controversy by highlighting PARAM, fully built in India by Indian engineers. In a post on X, the company declared: “Enough of this nonsense! Presenting PARAM: India’s most powerful indigenous robot dog. Not assembled, not bought, BUILT IN INDIA, built by INDIANS. For our nation, for our century, for our world! Jai Hind!”

Developed by the startup, PARAM weighs 35 kg, carries a 20 kg payload, achieves speeds of 3 meters per second, and jumps up to one meter. It features eight hours of battery life with hot-swapping capabilities and plans for commercial availability in Q2 2026.

The company also presented PARAM to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the National Startup Day 2026 Deep Tech showcase, alongside Minister Piyush Goyal. The PM advised the founder to protect the robot during Delhi winters.

Atom-1: India’s First Walking Humanoid

General Autonomy has additionally developed Atom-1, recognized as India’s first walking humanoid robot.

Robodog Capabilities and Applications

Robodogs are four-legged robots mimicking canine movement, equipped with sensors, cameras, and AI. They excel in rugged terrains, climbing stairs, navigating debris, and operating where wheeled vehicles falter. Key uses include search-and-rescue in disasters, surveillance, perimeter patrols, and defense operations.

Demonstrations include PARAM confronting Bengaluru street dogs, showcasing its real-world resilience.

India AI Impact Summit Overview

The five-day India AI Impact Summit focuses on People, Planet, and Progress pillars. It unites policymakers, tech firms, innovators, academics, and leaders to advance AI under the IndiaAI Mission and Digital India initiatives.
