Samsung Electronics rolls out a major software update for Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub models in the U.S., delivering advanced AI features without new hardware. Powered by Google Gemini, the update enhances food recognition, voice control, and personalized widgets starting today.
Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team for the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, stated: “A home appliance’s value should not be fixed at the moment of purchase — it should grow as the technology around it evolves. With this update to the Family Hub, Samsung delivers a more intelligent kitchen experience that recognizes a wider variety of foods, understands natural conversation, and adapts to each household’s routines.”
AI Food Manager: Broader Recognition Capabilities
The enhanced AI Food Manager uses upgraded AI Vision and cloud intelligence to identify more fresh produce, packaged goods, and regional ingredients beyond its original 40 items. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) ensures precise detection of branded products worldwide. By analyzing usage patterns, the system sends proactive alerts for restocking frequently used items, streamlining grocery lists and minimizing food waste.
Bixby: Natural Conversational Voice Control
The improved Bixby supports intuitive, context-aware interactions, handling complex requests through everyday speech.
Example: Sphere Ice Request
User: “Hi Bixby, make round ice for my drink.”
Bixby: “Okay, I’m turning on the Sphere Ice mode.”
Example: Temperature Adjustment
User: “Hi Bixby, make the fridge cooler when it gets hot out.”
Bixby: “At what outdoor temperature should I make the fridge cooler?”
User: “90°F or above.”
Bixby: “Okay, I’ll set up a routine to turn on Power Cool for the Family Hub refrigerator when the outdoor temperature is 90°F or above.”
Now Brief: Tailored Daily Widgets
Now Brief expands with personalized widgets for daily utility:
- Trending Recipes: Popular daily recipe videos, accessible via SmartThings Food.
- FoodNote: Displays top ingredients used last week and suggests matching recipes.
- What’s for Today?: Gamified menu ideas based on fridge contents or random picks.
Voice ID recognition customizes content, showing calendar events, birthday reminders, interest-based , sleep summaries, and activity updates for each user.
