Several prominent UK companies have entered administration this week amid escalating costs and challenging trading conditions. High street favorites continue to struggle, with 1,631 businesses filing for administration in 2025, data from law firm Shakespeare Martineau shows. New additions to the list include a historic mattress producer, a popular juice company, and a commercial construction firm.
Airsprung Mattress
Airsprung, a mattress and bed manufacturer with over 150 years of history, has made 71 employees redundant. Administrators from PwC note that directors had no choice but to initiate the process due to prolonged tough trading and recent cashflow issues. The firm commits to supporting staff during this difficult period.
Based in Trowbridge, Airsprung produces beds and mattresses, supplying hotels and sports stadium seating under brands like Gainsborough and Airofreem. Its products appear in major retailers such as Dunelm and Asda.
CEO and Director Tean Dallaway calls the development “very sad and disappointing.”
Press Juice Company
The health-focused Press brand, known for juice cleanses, smoothies, healthy meal plans, and nutritionist-designed soups, has also entered administration. Its products stock shelves at supermarkets including Asda, Sainsbury’s, and Marks & Spencer.
Marco Piacquadio and Rachel Elizabeth Ennis from FTS Recovery Limited serve as joint administrators, records from Companies House confirm.
Companies House explains that administration under the Insolvency Act 1986 aims to rescue viable but cash-strapped businesses. Licensed insolvency practitioners, appointed by directors, creditors, or the court, manage the process.
Calvert Construction Limited
Calvert Construction Limited, a specialist in commercial building projects, officially entered administration on May 1. The appointment by joint administrators Anthony Milnes and Mike Dillon of Leonard Curtis was confirmed in the High Court of Justice, Business and Property Courts in Manchester.
Representatives from Press and Calvert Construction Limited have been approached for comment.
