The Thai Cabinet has approved plans for the Department of Public Relations to coordinate with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), relevant agencies, and private sector partners to ensure smooth, legal live broadcasts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup across Thailand.

2026 FIFA World Cup Overview

The 2026 FIFA World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Thai governments have consistently enabled widespread public access to past tournaments, and this administration continues that tradition.

Government policy promotes free viewing of major international sports events, including the World Cup, to deliver joy to citizens, inspire youth participation in sports, enhance physical and mental well-being, and elevate Thailand’s football skills for global competition.

Broadcast Logistics and Rights Acquisition

Organizers must secure broadcasting rights directly from FIFA, the event’s rights holder. Signals from overseas will connect through domestic networks, including National Telecom Public Company Limited, Thaicom Public Company Limited, digital terrestrial television channels, and other platforms.

This setup allows Thai viewers to watch every match for free on multiple channels without additional costs.

Roles of Key Agencies

Department of Public Relations (PRD)

The PRD serves as the government’s central communications hub, promoting official messaging through radio, television, and digital technologies. It ensures reliable, beneficial information reaches the public.

Through Thailand Television (NBT), a public service broadcaster, the PRD disseminates news, fosters understanding between government and citizens, educates on democratic governance under the monarchy, and supports vulnerable groups with public-interest programming.

National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC)

The NBTC oversees broadcasting and telecommunications under relevant laws, including spectrum allocation and the Telecommunications Research and Development Fund for Public Benefit (TRDI). It regulates operations to serve the public interest.

These efforts guarantee comprehensive risk management and compliance throughout the broadcast period.
